Instagram Finally Lets You Reorder Carousels After Posting!

Summary

  • Use a simple long-press and drag to reorder your photos and videos after they’re live.
  • Fix your mistakes without deleting the post, keeping all your likes and comments intact.
  • You can change the order or delete specific slides, though you can’t add new media.

We’ve all been there. You spend time picking the perfect slides for an Instagram carousel, hit share, and then realise slide four should have definitely been the cover. In the past, your only options were to live with the mistake or delete the whole thing and start over on Instagram, losing all your likes and comments in the process.

Well, those days are over. Instagram has officially rolled out a feature that lets you reorder your carousel photos and videos post-publish.

Why This Matters for Your Feed

This update is all about giving you more control over your creative vision. Whether you’re a brand showcasing a new collection or just sharing a weekend dump, you now have the flexibility to change your mind.

  • Seamless Editing: You can easily move media around without the headache of deleting and re-uploading.
  • Keep Your Momentum: Since you aren’t deleting the post, all your engagement, the likes, the shares, and the conversations in the comments stay exactly where they are.
  • Fixing The Flow: Sometimes a story just reads better in a different order. Now you can adjust the sequence to make sure your audience sees your most important content first.

How to Do It

The process is super simple and takes just a few seconds:

  1. Go to the carousel post on Instagram you want to edit.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner and select Edit.
  3. Long-press on the photo or video you want to move.
  4. Drag and drop it into the new position.
  5. Hit Done to save your changes.

The FYI

While you can reorder and even remove items from your carousel after it’s live, keep in mind that you cannot add new media to an existing post. You’re working with the slides you’ve already uploaded, just in a fresh order.
